RI President's Representative to our District Conference - James Aydelotte, Charming and Insightful Rotarian

Born in New Orleans, James grew up in Memphis TN and Chincoteague Island VA.  After earning several degrees, including a Ph.D. while studying one year in Germany as a Rotary Scholar, he taught European history at the college level where he also served as an Academic Dean.  In 1980 he joined the staff at the Rotary International Secretariat in Evanston.  As a senior manager, he served first as manager of The Rotary Foundation, then secretary of the international Board of Directors of RI, next executive assistant to the General Secretary, and later to the President of RI.

While studying at Cambridge University, England, James met and married Margaret, a native of Britain, and now a US citizen.  Margaret, also a Ph.D., spend 40 years in college and university teaching and medical research, working especially on osteoarthritis.

Group Study Exchange with Turks in Full Swing!

and more data (click here)

On Friday April 27 the five members of the Group Study Exchange Team from Rotary District 2440 led by Ilknur Ozer arrived in Savannah after 24 hours of travel to begin their tour of our district with St. Simmons on Sunday.  On Friday May 4 our team led by Patrick Roche from Macon will depart for Turkey.  Fortunately both teams were in Savannah on Saturday April 28 and the members of the two teams could have the opportunity to meet each other for pizza and begin to learn about each other's country and culture.  For example, we learned that the typical breakfast in Turkey is tomatoes, bread, cheese, olives, cucumbers and honey or jam.  The team from Turkey is fluent in English and two team members are English teachers and are very good with even the nuances of English.  We wish both teams the best for their exchange which will become one of the benchmark experiences of their lives, we expect.  Our thanks to Patrick Roche, an MD at Mercer Medical school for taking a month to lead the team and be away from his wife, who wishes that she could be on the trip too.  You can follow our team during their trip on their Facebook page which is https://www.facebook.com/onrozer

Targeting the 'next generation of Rotarians'

April 20, 2012    By Adam Van Brimmer  The Savannah New-Press

Gordon Matthews has listened to countless speakers in his decades as a Rotarian.

One made a particular impression on the current governor of the Southeast Georgia District of Rotary International. The young woman, called to speak during the 2010 Rotary convention in Montreal, had recently started a new Rotary Club geared toward young professionals.(Read More) .

Speaker Database Now Available for Clubs

Members value the weekly meeting much more when the speaker is interesting – but it is not always easy to find really good speakers.  Now clubs in 6920 have a new resource developed by our district.  Please begin to add your favorite club program speakers to the database so that other clubs can benefit from your experience.  Of course speakers will rarely be willing to travel to the far corners of 6920 and will be more likely to speak to clubs within an hour or so of their location so we have provided a geographic access to this new data base, as you will see (Click here) or use Tab in Clubs list.
