ROTARY CLUB OF RICHMOND HILL WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE

The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill is very focused on the needs of young people in the community.  They have a regular program of events with the local Interact club which includes bowling nights, canoe trips and beach clean ups.

Bill Eberlein, President of The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill and CEO of Megateeth Fossils “We have a great relationship with Jill Kelsey and her Interact club.  Not only do we get to know the Rotarians of the future but we have great fun doing so.

The Richmond Hill Rotary Club also recently  presented $2,500 to support five Richmond Hill schools’ Principal Funds. These include the Richmond Hill High, Middle, Elementary and Primary schools as well as the Dr George Washington Carver Elementary School.

Accepting these donations of $500 for each school, Helen Herndon, Principal of The Richmond Hill High School said “All of the Principals really appreciate this discretionary funding from the Rotary Club – it means that we are able to assist pupils whose families cannot afford simple things such as reading glasses and educational trips which help these young people to make the most of their school days”.

In addition, Helen Herndon awarded an outstanding pupil the honor of Junior Rotarian of the Month. Trevor (Trey) Thomas from the Richmond Hill High School is a leader, a role model and always has a smile for everybody.  His weakness is being unable to let anyone down!  A member of the school’s football team, Trey thanked the school’s football coach, Lyman Guy, and said that football “helps me to keep out of trouble, gives me focus and helps me to lead people”.

Bill Eberlein said “The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill has made a commitment to support young people and through our fundraising efforts we have been able to donate to the Principal’s Fund for several years.  In addition, we decided to reinstate the `Junior Rotarian of the Month’ award along with our annual  `Youth Leadership’ Award to inspire young people to be the very best they can be at school, in our community, with their families and throughout their lives.”
