Rotary Clubs World Wide

As a member of your Rotary Club you are a part of Rotary International and as such you are welcomed at any meeting of a Rotary Club around the world. Even though its headquarters is in Evanston, Ill. and is actually larger outside of the US and has a number of specific programs that connect Rotarians far beyond the city limits of your town.  RI operates under one President, one Board of Directors and one set of policies and procedures around the world. You are a member of a truly a world-wide organization of 1.2 million Rotarians in 30,000 Rotary Clubs.

We Rotarians in District 6920 do make a difference:

We support each other in our personal and business lives.

We share the responsibilities in our club and in our District 6920.

We volunteer and provide leadership and service in our community.

We use our profession or business to set a high standard of ethics.

We contribute to TRF, METS, GRSP, Polio Plus and other programs.

We work to break down national boundaries and cultural barriers through Group Study Exchange and the Georgia Rotary Student Program.

We demonstrate our compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves through Polio Plus, local club projects, and matching grants.

There may well be multiple Rotary Clubs in your town that meet at various locations, times and days of the week.  Each of these clubs likely has its own history, personality, and composition as you may learn from visiting these clubs for a “make up”.  Rotary’s strength is in each club whose leadership has considerable latitude on how it operates and what it seeks to achieve.

In every country Rotary seeks to deepen the relationships among its members, to promote volunteerism and service both locally and in developing areas of the world, and to encourage high ethical standards – an example of which is the “4 Way Test”.  Rotary, through its organization, offers many, many ways to translate these objectives into concrete action.

Your Club is in Rotary District 6920 which is in Zone 34

Rotary Clubs in central and southeast Georgia, an area bounded by Augusta, Macon, Valdosta, St. Mary’s, Brunswick and Savannah, cooperate as Rotary District 6920, one of three districts in the State of Georgia. The others are 6900 which includes Atlanta and west Georgia and 6910 for north Georgia.  The designated leader for each district is called the District Governor (or DG) who serves for a term of one year, as does the President of your own club and as does the President of Rotary International (who determines the annual theme of Rotary).

Rotating leadership on an annual cycle worldwide beginning on July 1 each year encourages the members to share responsibility for the various positions within each club.  If you have seen a V of geese flying, you may have noticed how one takes the lead position at the front of the V and provides actual aerodynamic benefits to lift the flock, and then another member of that flock moves up to take that position. The leader then drops back into the flock.  Rotary operates in much the same way.

Zone 34

Your club, your district and The Rotary Foundation are the most relevant organization units of Rotary for you – what happens locally for you and what happens worldwide.  In between is a group of multiple districts which are grouped into Zones (we are in Zone 34) and one of the 18 Directors of RI comes from Zone 33 & 34.  This RI Board of Directors provides the overall guidance and leadership for Rotary internationally.
