Future Vision Training Starts in
D6920
Future Vision is the
Rotary Foundation’s name for our new grant-making model that has been
implement in 20% of Rotary’s districts and will be in effect in 6920 and
worldwide on July 1, 2013. On December 9th experts from 6900,
under Future Vision now, conducted a workshop for us in Dublin so that we
could begin as a district to prepare for changes that will affect the
structure and process for grants within our district as well as for our
international grants. The terminology changes, the approval process
changes and clearly the district’s responsibilities change.
The good news is that
more of your contributions to the Foundation’s Annual Fund will be
available for projects inside our district. Further, we will be able to
continue what we know as District Simplified Grants, Group Study Exchange
and Ambassadorial Scholarships if we elect to use our District Designated
Funds to do so. For DSG our intent is that the grant support the active
involvement of Rotarians and not simply be a donation to another
organization and that will be of increasing importance under Future Vision

Club Best Practices Collected by DG During Club Visits
The most successful organizations and businesses search out
the “best practices” to inspire their people and to improve their
processes. For example, Southwest Airlines went to visit Indy 500 pit
crews to get ideas about fast turnaround of equipment – and they applied
those best practices to how they operate when a plane arrives at a
terminal gate – so now Southwest turns an aircraft at a gate in half the
time that it takes Delta to do the same thing; Southwest’s plane is
earning money flying while Delta’s plane is sitting on the ground.
District 6920 now has a
beginning framework for Club Best Practices that is available on the
district web site under the blue tab called Club Best Practices. DG
Gordon has collected these best practices during his club visits since
July 1, 2011. These Best Practices are
actually being utilized in one or more clubs in District 6920 but no club
can reasonably expect to fully incorporate all of the Best Practices.
Hopefully this list will help club leaders and their boards to identify
worthwhile opportunities to become more effective and successful.

Priorities Announced
by new RI
General Secretary
For an important period of eleven years Ed Futa served as
General Secretary of Rotary International and on July 1, 2011 John Hewko
became Rotary’s new General Secretary with a real depth of international
development experience from living outside of the US, especially in Russia
and Eastern Europe. For five year he worked in the Bush administration
delivering foreign assistance to the world’s poorest countries. He
applied for the job of General Secretary after his Rotarian father sent
him a clipping of the announcement of the open position. So we have been
wondering what John’s global experience with developing countries would
bring to Rotary.

District
Seminar a Huge Success
An outstanding 75% of our Clubs in District 6920 participated in a very
successful District Foundation and Membership Seminar
in Dublin on August 13!
Our new more convenient location and valuable presentations attracted
150 participants from throughout the District.
A first for our seminar was a live Skype call with a matching-grant
partner in the Southern Hemisphere. During the morning, District
Matching Grants Chair John Neely presented a live Skype conference with
our grant recipient Stan Rosholt in Bolivia using the Internet.
Participants could see Stan as he was speaking and could ask him
questions. His presentation explained how our grant is keeping wells in
working condition so that rural Bolivians avoid water-borne diseases.
Excellent break-outs were held on membership, public relations, data
base and the web, and district simplified grants to help clubs with
their plans for the this new Rotary year.
Oconee Fall Line Technical College in Dublin proved to be very
convenient as it is located just off of I-16 and the facility is well
designed for such events. The Dublin Rotary Club provided excellent
support for the seminar and excelled at the many logistics of
registration, refreshments and lunch.
The Rotary Club of Savannah Sunrise received The Blankenship Cup with an
outstanding three-year per capita contribution level to the Foundation
of $212. The Rotary Club of Skidaway Island was runner up at a strong
$181.
Robert Hall from Atlanta provided an update on the global progress of
Polio Plus and had the winning ticket for the grand door price of two
nights in Savannah, dinner and a certificate to a wine bar.
